i have a class to get certified for lashes.
i am so excite!!
i have a few question for you guys...
what else do you do other than eyelashes? do you just do lashed can you get a job in a salon just doing lashes?
how much do you normally charge for lashes? i've seen this vary from 175 to 600...
sorry for any stupid questions i'm new at this.

Hi and welcome I am a nurse, when I first started (i took my class one year ago) I still worked as a nurse. As I got busier and busier I cut down to part time and 5 months ago I quit altogether and work only for myself now. I never worked in a salon, however, many salons do hire people just to do lashes. It can be a good idea to help build your business, clients and confidence. You would def need some practice under your belt and also prepare a portfolio in order to show salon owners your work. My most popular sets are 325 and 375, touch ups are 120 every 2-4 weeks. I will be raising my prices in Sept. for new sets, maybe even sooner. As far as doing free sets- well a few you should do, maybe your closer friends while you are still really learning. Then come up with a fair price to others- maybe $50 or so? this way it covers your product cost. Remember they are going to be telling their friends and so on and so forth. So your not doing it for free- your doing it for advertising. Personally, I did alot of free sets in the beginning and alot of free touch ups. For the first 3 months I did not charge even though my work was good enough to charge full price for. The full set is easier than the touch ups so I wanted to be sure that I knew what I was doing without fumbling and that I was content with people saying I did their lashes. I made sure to pick all types of different eyes and types of lashes for my practice sets so I never had an uh-oh moment with a paying client. By doing all this practice it also helped get my speed up there so it was comfortable for people as well and not have to lay there forever. I went through alot of supplies before I really put myself out there but I wanted to make sure that when I do a set you would never know that I just started. I show people my first set and they can't believe it. I worked clean from the start but I was slow I am just a perfectionist with a bit of OCD mixed in...LOL My advice to you would be to focus on practicing and getting good before you worry so much about what to charge your practice sets. You might have to spend some money on supplies but you will make it back quick enough. That is just my honest opinion, the freedom of running your own business is beautiful since you yourself can make those decisions and live and learn by them :-) I def think you should have an idea of how much you want to charge. What are others in your area charging? What is the level of their work compared to yours? These are the things you have to think of and consider. I like kinda in the middle. I don't want to be the cheapest, and there is no need for that, I also didn't want to be the most expensive either...What are the demographics of your potential clients? Can they afford you? As far as the class, of course they will want you to do it for free- how else are you going to learn? My motto is build it and they will come-just don't take shortcuts, soon enough there will be others in your area too and YOU want to be the one they go to. Happy Lashing and good luck

Hi - I am also a nurse and do lashes out of my home on the weekends. I did a brief stint in a salon but did not have a good experience. The owner was not very professional at all and did not follow through with her advertising for me that she promised. I was told she had a client base of 500 people, I was lucky to see maybe 2 a week. She charged $250 for my full sets and took half - which was fine. But then she also took half my tips! If a client paid with a credit card I wouldn't get paid at all until 2 weeks later. So, needless to say I left that place and went back to nursing. My home EE business is really small right now, so I am only charging $80 for a full set just to get people in the door. I also give alot of my coworkers "doe eyes" (half sets) for free just to get my work seen. So far word of mouth has been very good and I always give out business cards to everyone I lash so they can pass them along. For every referral I give a free touch up. Can't say I'm making much of a profit right now, but the experience alone is worth it!

Once you establish yourself and your skills improve - you CAN make good Money from being a Lash Stylist without offering other services. i-lashNYC Didn't know you could upload pictures ...cool.
