Does anyone apply extensions to the lower lashes?

Occasionally I get asked to do this by clients. Personally I think it's way to dangerous as presumably the client would need to have there eyes open in order to get the lashes on. I presume that they are applied to the back of the lower lashes for safety reasons. Having said all that if it can be performed safely without risk to the client then I can see the value.

I would be really interested to know if any of you have been properly trained in this procedure and if so, who did you train with, do you perform this for many treatments, how much longer does it add to the treatment time and how much extra % wise do you charge for the treatment.

I've heard about people using 4mm lengths on the lower lashes. I have not done it on anyone yet because I have no idea about HOW to do it but I would imagine that it would look fantastic.

Just wondered if you know how this procedure is conducted. A client asked me about this today as they had seen the service offered in a salon but the cost to get it done was over £200.

In order to apply extensions to the bottom lashes, the client needs to keep her eyes open throughout the application. Which can be difficult, as her blinking would interfere. I've never done it, although I have seen it done. The extension need to be held upside down - in other words the curved part of the extension faces upwards instead of down, when dipped into the glue. The extension is then applied ontop of the lower lash. The girl that did the procedure applied the lashes from the side of the bed instead of behind her head. She put the lashes/glue on the clients chest.

I must admit they looked very good....The only problem with lower lashes is:
1. You need to use a glue with no vapour/fume
2. Vapourless glues tend not to last very long
3. The client lashes had nearly all come off after 2 weeks
4. Using 0.20 thick extensions doesn't look that great. The 0.15 lashes look better
5. And if your going to apply the 0.15 lashes, you need alot of them.
6. The application itself is fiddly and time consuming.
7. You would need to charge big $$ in order to profit on offering this service.

Would Lash Out offer training in this area? Not at the moment

Thanks Tami for your response. It does sound fiddly as well as time consuming. It sounds also like it could pose a potential safety risk with the tweezers, as the client could move suddenly which could cause an injury to the eye.

Do you know if there is any safe way of protecting the eyes whilst performing the treatment? Also are X type tweezers used or straight tweezers used to perform bottom lash application.

I don't think it really matters which type of tweezers you use. The only benefit from the X tweezers, it that you don't need to squeeze them in order to hold the extension. You only squeeze to release the lash.

I've noticed that Some girls keep dropping the extension when they pick it up. Its usually because they are squeezing the tweezer too hard OR their is too much glue on the tweezers that have dried up.

The safety issue poses a real threat. That's another reason we won't teach this technique. Nothing a good swipe of mascara on the bottom lashes can't fix...huh?

I've been putting extensions on the bottom lashes for some time now. I get my client to hold the fan on her chest to blow away the fumes during the application. It takes a little getting use to, but once you've done it a couple of times it gets easier.

I put them on the same way as Tami described, but I do it from behind the clients head. I get the client to hold a small hand held fan directed towards the eye while I'm doing it to stop the fumes from irritating or watering the eyes.

You can do lower lash extensions WITH the eyes closed. You tape underneath the bottom lashes and tape up the top lashes. And apply the extensions the same way you would the top, but flipped the way the natural lash on the bottom goes.
