One of my clients has been wearing eyelash extensions continuously now for almost 2 years. She comes for infill's every 2 weeks. Every 4/5 months I make her wear them off and have a short break of up to 1 week without the lashes. Her lashes are healthy and show no lash loss or gaps.
I'm curious what other eyelash extensionists advise with regards to long term wear clients.
Your advice would be really appreciated.

Sorry to sound naive, but why do you remove all the lashes in the first place?

I don't remove them I get them to wear the majority off before a short break. I personally don't like to remove full sets of lashes as there is a slight risk of the remover getting in the eyes and it can take a little while to remove them.
I was advised to give clients breaks from the treatment when I trained in lashes. The rationale being:
- To make a full assessment on the quality of the clients lashes; - To tint if necessary; - The client can see for themselves that the lashes are healthy and that no harm is being caused by the treatment.
So far this approach has worked for me and I haven't lost any clients, in fact normally they insist on having them put back on 2/3 days later.

I sometimes remove my clients lashes after about 8 months, when the Lash Fills start looking a bit Out-Of-Order - (what I call the OOO). TThe only reason I do this, is so that the thickness and lengths of the lashes all work in harmony together again. Not every one of them agree's to it though.

I have heard about people doing this with their clients. Personally, I don't think its necessary and it ends up costing the client more money, than if she was to keep refilling them. Its tempting to remove and start again....as Nothing looks better than a freshly applied full-set, when all the lashes lengths marry up together.
Over time, the lashes can get a bit OOO (good one Eyecandy), especially when your using a long lasting glue and the extension grows out to the end of the natural lash. This can make them appear messy/uneven. As a lash stylist, we need to be able to fix this with minimum time and client cost when we do a refill. I don't ever suggest to cut an extension, as it appears to blunt without a tapered end. If a natural lash has outgrown with an extension on the very end, I will cut a natural lash (with scissors) where the two lashes join (leaving a shorter natural lash), and then I re-apply another extenison on it. This is how I keep all my sets looking as good as the first full-set.

What you say makes sense. Good suggestion re cutting the natural lash this is a quick and easy tip for refills.
