One of my clients called me today and said that her eyes were sore and red after having eyelash extensions put on. She's only had em on for a few days. I've asked her to come in so that I could see if any of the lashes are poking her in the eye. I've never had this happen before and I don't know what a glue allergy looks like. HELPPPP

From my experience it sounds like a reaction but also I dont know if your new to the EE but maybe some are to close to the lash line?

Is this the first time the client has worn eyelash extensions and what brand of adhesive did you use? I have heard that some clients can react to the fumes from a fast or strong bond adhesive.

Bonnie, Sorry I didn't reply sooner - I've been training.
Very Rarely do clients have a reaction to Eyelash Extension Adhesive.
Glue allergy reactions usually occur within 48 hours.
Should a reaction occur, you must REMOVE ALL THE LASHES AND GLUE IMMEDIATELY.
I don't normally charge for removal if they call within 48 hours.
These reactions show as:
ボ Swelling on the eyelids
ボ Redness
ボ Weeping/ Watering eyes
ボ Burning
ボ Skin scabbing on the eyelid and under the eyebrow
Once the ALL the extensions and adhesive has been removed from the client｡ｦs eyes - Cleanse both eyes with make-up remover to ensure that the glue remover products are not left on or around the lashes/eye area.
Refer client to Doctor for topical (ointment) medication if there is
any scabbing on the upper eyelid area, or if the irritation continues after removing the lashes.
These types of clients will ALWAYS have a glue allergy to ANY lash extension adhesive.
Using a alternative glue will not make any difference. Most glues contain the same ingredients, just the percentages are different.
Note: Some clients CAN develop Adhesive allergies.
Even clients that have worn Eyelash Extensions for long periods of time can develop glue reactions. Always check for reactions during Lash-Fills and ask the client how her eyes are feeling between visits.
To prevent any Legal action, ALWAYS have a new Full-Set client sign a WAIVER RELEASE FORM prior to application and explain what action is required by the client should the situation occur.
The Other solution may be that the lashes were placed too close to the eyelid.
When the client blinks, the skin of the eyelid streches and can pull/move the lashes.
If the extensions are positioned too close to the skin, they can scratch the eyeball.
If the extensions were not glued on correctly, the base/shank of the extensions comes loose while the upper half of the extension is still bonded. This results in the extension pointing downward into the eyeball. Whether its a positioning or bonding problem, these troublesome lashes need to be removed.

Sorry that I have replied for so long. My client contacted me after going to the Doc's and told me she had a case of Pink Eye. She since then, she is on Antibiotic drops and has resceduled an appointment late next week for a refill. Apparently she used a friends mascara that was contaminated and thats how she go it. I'm just so happy that it wasn't because of the lashes I put on her.
